The company Vic Firth Drum Sticks is probably one of the biggest drum stick manufacturer's on the planet. Vic started making drum sticks in a shed at the bottom of his garden. He had a wood turning lathe, chisells and wood working tools, as Vic was Principal Percussionist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Vic knew everything about what drum sticks where all about. Vic knew about the certain weights that drummers like to use as well as the different models that would work well with drummers. His friend's Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa would ask Vic to design and make them some drum sticks to use when they were both playing with their Orchestra's. Vic's name got around and he started to get lot's of call's from fellow drummers all wanting his own personal drum sticks. Vic then decided to start his own company which would make drum sticks, Mallets and anything else to do with sticks. The company went on from strength to strenth and today Vic Firth Drum Sticks are celebrating 50 years in the business. I would strongly recommend that you take a look at the following websites www.vicfirth.com/tour Today Vic Firth invite's many of the worlds top drummers and percussionists to visit his factory and watch how the drum sticks are made. The roster of artists that insist on using Vic's quality drum sticks is amazing. Vic Firth spends time with each of the drummers when they choose to design their own drum sticks.
